Instructor - Jay Matusow
Instructor Biography - I've been working at photography at some level or another since 1961 when I was 9 years old and making my earliest attempts to process film and make prints in the basement closet. When I was 14, my great uncle gave me an old (even back then) Voigtlander bellows camera and I began to teach myself what to do with a manual aperture and shutter speed. But the more recent event that made the biggest difference in my work ,was the arrival of an affordable Digital SLR and the related ability to digitally edit high resolution images in PhotoShop. I have an MS computer science and work with computers professionally, so I am very comfortable in the digital world. While I'm far from a leading expert, I've managed to learn some tricks that have turned some of my better images into award winners and have had reasonable success at club and interclub competitions.

Description - Using Photography as a Starting Point for Abstract Images: One Man's
Process, Philosophy, and Methodology
When we move away from the idea of using our cameras to record images that
resemble the world as it exists around us, and begin to use photography as
a starting point to create an image that will not necessarily resemble the
world as we experience it, we leave behind a lot of constraints -- but the
freedom of working in the abstract can be both liberating and confusing.
How do we work towards a result which is either beautiful, interesting, or
moving, rather than something that just looks startling, tacky, or
strange. In this presentation I will try to share with you my iterative
path from the digital images I record with my camera, to some of the
abstract and creative images that I think work well. We will talk a
little about philosophy, conceptualization, and look at a few techniques.

Description - As a communication medium, our photographs are meant to be viewed and
shared with others rather than stay hidden on a hard drive. With the
advent of the Internet, photographers have been able to share and
display their work more easily through web sites. However with the
recent arrival of "social networks" on the Internet, sharing our work
and interacting with a maximum number of people has become even
easier.
During this workshop, we will present and discuss the major "social
networks" and explain their usage, key benefits, drawbacks and main
differences. We will also explain and demonstrate how to publish your
images to these sites from you computer or smart phone.
This workshop will also address the key licensing issues related to
the use of these sites.
Finally, we will review in details and demonstrate how to use the
existing Flickr RCC group page (from account creation to image sharing
and discussion forum usage.

Instructor Biography -
Location - VFW at Pulis and Franklin Ave. - 725 Franklin Ave., Franklin, NJ
Description - Do you want to control the look of your images or just rely on the camera to
take what it wants rather than what you want? Do you want to blur the busy
background of a flower, photograph a fast moving race car, take a once in a
lifetime images inside a dimly lit church in Italy without a tripod and
forced to hand hold the camera or take a scenic image where everything from
foreground to background is in sharp focus? If so this workshop is for you.
While it is true that it easy in digital photography to delete a bad image
but the technology is not yet up to the task of adding a great image that
you did not know how to take.
We will cover the functions of aperture, shutter speed and ISO setting and
see how they affect the image and just as important the interrelationship
between the three. Lens selection will be discussed and how it affects the
look of the image. Camera exposure and metering modes will also be
discussed.
